Elle Purrier and Heather MacLean, both representing New Balance Boston, each achieved the U.S. Olympic Trials standards in the women's 800 meters, placing second and third at the Prickly Pear Invitational at Brophy Prep in Phoenix. Purrier clocked 2:02.04 and MacLean ran 2:02.28 as part of five athletes achieving sub-2:03 performances. MacLean, the world indoor mile leader at 4:27.54 following her Jan. 31 performance at the American Track League event in Arkansas, ran 2:00.29 outdoors Aug. 11 in Massachusetts. Purrier clocked 2:00.70 in a mixed 800 race July 27 in Connecticut, but the 2:02.04 is the fastest performance of her career in a race with only female competitors.
